Adelaide-born, Berlin-based electronic musician, Kyson, aka Jian Kellet Liew writes tender, emotional, soul tinged acoustic music, not unlike simon & garfunkel or kings of convenience. But there is a certain cadence to the delivery and a warmth to the musical production that makes us think that matt ward would be a more appropriate musical doppelganger. Both artists are masters of the gentle vocal delivery, perhaps more from necessity versus motive. I’ve included a track from matt ward from the ‘mosters of folk’ record that came out a few years prior (a collaboration of conor oberst, mike mogis, jim james, and m. ward). Although this song lacks some of the bells and whistles present on the Kyson track, upon further listening, one might be able to draw similarities to both artists.
